The government has instructed the telecom service provider to block spoof calls.
The Home Ministry told the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that the Cybercrime Coordination Center (i4C) has identified and blocked more than 3962 Skype IDs and 83,668 WhatsApp accounts involved in digital arrest cases. The Ministry of Home Affairs is a special wing to monitor cyber offenses. The ministry said that cyber criminals used these accounts to be cheated by agencies like ED, CBI.
The minister said that losses of more than Rs 4386 crore could be avoided on the basis of more than 13.36 lakh complaints. A toll-free helpline number 1930 has been started for complaints of cyber crime.
The Central Government and the Telecom Service Provider (TSP) have designed a system to identify and block international spoof calls. In case of such calls, India has India’s number while the call is coming from abroad. TSP has been instructed to block such calls.
